United Nations Peacebuilding: an orientation.

 



We the peoples of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind, and to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, and for these ends to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples, have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these aims.

The policy of neutrality.

  In the face of political tension and escalating crises, it is of great importance to uphold tthe principles of sovereignty and the sovereign equality of States , territorial integrity , self-determination and non-intervention in the internal affairs of any State , and to defend, promote and encourage the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security are not endangered. Therefore, the policy of neutrality contributes to the strengthening of peace and security in relevant regions and at the global level and  the policy of neutrality  plays an important role in developing peaceful, friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the countries of the world. Proclamation of December 12th as the International Day of Neutrality.

  On February 2nd of the year 2017, the  United Nations General Assembly  adopted without a vote resolution 71/275 — introduced by Turkmenistan, recognized by the United Nations as a permanently  neutral state  since 12 December 1995 — which noted  the link between the preservation of peace and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development , and declared 12 December as the International Day of Neutrality .
